Crazy Sexy Cancer

An irreverent and uplifting documentary, Crazy Sexy Cancer is the story of 31-year-old Kris Carr, an aspiring actress from New York whose life was put on hold when she was diagnosed with a rare and incurable stage IV vascular cancer. Carr decided to film her search for treatment just weeks after her diagnosis and the result is a funny, touching and honest film about what it’s like to live with a potentially terminal disease when life is just beginning. As Carr transforms into a “healing junkie” we follow her to alternative medicine fares and to the homes of macro-biotic chefs, we watch her down vegetable smoothies and barium to prepare for CT scans, but her exuberance, humor and sass never leave her. Along the way Carr reaches out to other remarkable women living with the disease and discovers the true meaning of “healing.” As funny as it is frightening and as joyous as it is angry, Crazy Sexy Cancer challenges the common ideas about cancer and transforms a seemingly tragic situation into a profound statement about life.

Kris Carr is an award winning actress, director and photographer. In 2002, Kris directed a short entitled Redemption about the 20th anniversary of the Bottle Bill and the homeless men and women who rely on the nickel deposits for their livelihood. As an actress, Kris has worked both on and off Broadway, in film, television and dozens of commercials. She has directed and choreographed stage productions regionally and abroad and has been a faculty member at both Stone Street Studios and Playwrights Horizons Theater School both at NYU.
