Have You Seen Andy?

On a hot summer day in August 1976, ten-year-old Andy Puglisi was playing along with dozens of other children at Higgins Memorial Pool in Lawrence, Massachusetts. Then, he disappeared. Twenty-two years later, Andy’s childhood friend, filmmaker Melanie Perkins, chronicles her search for answers to Andy’s whereabouts in this powerful documentary. As she travels back to her childhood home, and to the pool where she last saw Andy, Perkins’ engrossing documentary firmly places the viewer in a time before amber alters, milk carton missing-child ads and DNA testing – a time when finding a missing child came down to eye witnesses and police work, both of which Perkins examines in detail to reveal shocking oversights. Comprised of interviews with Andy’s family and friends, the detectives on the case, as well as the last person to see Andy alive, this bold and arresting film is as much a testament to the boundless nature of friendship as it is to fine filmmaking.

Melanie Perkins began her career in television production with Public Television. She worked on several films for the nationally acclaimed series NOVA and The American Experience. She collaborated on programs for The Discovery Channel, The History Channel and ABC. She is currently a freelance producer. Have You Seen Andy? is her first feature-length film, as a director, and was picked up for distribution by HBO Films.
