Heavy Metal Jr.

Hatred is an up-and-coming heavy metal band from Scotland made up of five driven elementary school friends ranging in age from 10 to 13. As the serious rockers prepare for their first ever gig, the boys encounter a few unforeseen problems, the least of which is their lack of original material and the most annoying of which is their singer-turned-manager dad whose eye-rolling antics and pep talks are more than the band mates can bear. As their big debut approaches, Hatred suffers another blow: their bassist quits. Despite being out one member and three songs, the boys are determined to blow the audience away and this humorous and captivating film catches every moment of their struggle, but when the curtain rises will Hatred be ready to rock?

Chris Waitt was raised in Sweden. Philosophy student turned filmmaker, Chris initially moved into directing after a failed career as a rock star. He quickly found himself obsessed with puppets and along with friend Henry Trotter created Furry Avenue - an outrageous adult puppet film which went on to win Golden Rose of Montreux in 2004, under the title Fur TV.
Chris has worked in a wide variety of genres – animation, documentary, drama and in particular comedy. He has made short films and music videos for Rough Trade records, Nexus animations, the UK Film Council, Channel 4 and the BBC. His work is characterized by its comic or provocative content and its technical ambition. For the last four years he has lived and worked in Scotland.
