PHOTOGRAPHS
OF ANDREAS HORVATH
AT 1112b GALLERY
Until
April 25, 2004 The Society for Arts' 112b Gallery displays
the series of photographs by Austrian artist Andreas Horvath.
In
the mid-eighties filmmaker and photographer Andreas Horvath
spent a high school year in Iowa. Since then he has just returned
to the Midwest frequently to work on various projects. The
selection of black and white photographs is a part of a larger
series published as a book in 1993. Originally called COWBOYS
AND INDIANS the book featured 85 images of "modern day
frontier life" including pictures of Indian reservations.
Star photographer Richard Avedon said about the photographs
"they are often beautiful and certainly true".
While
the book is out of print, original prints of the series are
available at the gallery for $575 each. Also, signed copies
of Horvath's new book YAKUTIA - SIBERIA OF SBERIA are sold
at the gallery. Official distribution of the book in the U.S.
will start this summer.
Andreas
Horvath's new film THIS AIN'T NO HEARTLAND which takes part
in this year's competition section of the Chicago International
Documentary Festival explores certain aspects of rural America
during war against terror and Iraq. In addition, a mini-retrospective
of Horvath's films will be presented as the part of the CIDF
Post Scriptum program, from April 12 to April 14, 2004. The
program includes THE SILENCE OF GREEN, CLEARANCE, POROEROTUS
and THIS AIN'T NO HEARTLAND. The Q&A's with the filmmaker
will follow the screenings.
